Learning during the CV-19 Emergency

Due to recent updates on the school system, The Sele School is delighted to announce that teachers will be able to provide online lessons/ learning experiences using Microsoft Teams from Monday 11th May. Please scroll down for the virtual timetable, which will be updated when changes in the programme occur.

Safeguarding

Please note that safeguarding remains our number one priority and so for this reason, your son/daughter will not be required to show their face during the meeting. He/she can choose to either speak or type when asking or answering questions. It is important that while your son/daughter is in a ‘Teams’ meeting they are in a suitable environment, where they are able to avoid distractions and conduct themselves in an appropriate manner. Students must remember that what they write, say or do on any chat forum is being recorded by the teacher and any inappropriate behaviour, comments or language directed at other peers or staff will be dealt with in line with the school’s behaviour policy.

Timetable

A online sessions will run from Monday 11th May using 'Teams'; the current timetables for each age group are shown below. Please note that not all subjects will be running for all year groups. Your son/daughter will receive an email inviting them to each ‘Team’ meeting and therefore they must ensure they check their school email regularly.

Details on how to access 'Teams' can be found below the Timetable.

If you have any issues getting onto Teams please see the online guidance provided here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/distance-learning-with-office-365-guidance-for-parents-and-guardians-89d514f9-bf5e-4374-a731-a75d38ddd588?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

To help online lessons / learning experiences run smoothly it is important that students can connect to ‘Teams’ in a suitable working environment, where they are able to avoid distractions and conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Please be aware that the previous provision (outlined below) continues alongside our online lessons.

You can expect the following from the teachers:

· Setting of work. · Daily learning activities will be set via SHOWMYHOMEWORK. (www.showmyhomework.co.uk)

· The work set should be the equivalent to the number of hours that a student would receive in a week for that subject.

· Longer term projects may be set in some subjects; students should ensure that they follow the expectations set out in the project.

· Work set will be appropriate for the level of the student.

· Work will be set for Years 7,8,9,10 and 12.

· Students can also access resources such as GCSE Pod, BBC Bitesize and Sam Learning to further support them.

· If you have any issues with login details for SHOWMYHOMEWORK then please contact jadams@sele.herts.sch.uk

Delivery each day

· A small group of teachers and support staff will be available in school to support students from 9 am to 3.00pm each day.

· Some teachers will be working from home and will support students via email queries from 9 am to 3.00pm each day.

· Where possible, teachers will respond to questions, queries, give feedback and provide advice and guidance throughout the working day using their Sele School email.

Feedback

· Teachers will monitor the work the students have completed.

· Where possible, teachers will ask for on-line submission so that work can be assessed and guidance on improvement can be given.

· Some staff may ask students to self-assess work

Learning Support

Our aim is to continue to provide learning for the students, but this will only be possible with your support. Suggestions that might make this more effective are to:

· Establish a routine for your child that mirrors the normal school day.

· Ensure students work during the normal school day.

· Complete their learning for the subjects in line with their timetable (available in their planner).

· Put their phone away, unless they are using it as a learning resource.

· Check the quality of the work your child produces; it is about quality not just completing tasks. If you think they could do better, please get them to re-do the work.

· Make sure your child takes breaks; has the opportunity to relax and get some fresh air if possible.

Speakers for Schools

As an extra option for some stimulating talks during lock down, please take a look at the schedule below. Students may be aware that Speakers for Schools are usually high profile individuals that come into schools, present an assembly and then a follow-up session, which is clearly impossible at the moment.

We have been very fortunate at Sele tin the past in that we have had a number of very interesting speakers, including David Dein the Arsenal Chairman, Tom Tomazie, and Matt Segal amongst others.

Please take a minute to look over the talks to see which ones look interesting to you; we hope they are useful for your personal development and aspiration.

Here is Next Week’s full VTALK Schedule.

We’ve included add to calendar links to help you save the dates. Add all of them and share these dates with your students and school colleagues. Enjoy!
